(re)making history

boom boom goes the drum

but the drum did not exist

pew pew goes the submachine gun

but the gun did not exist

whirr whirr goes the helicopter blades

but the helicopter did not exist

shhh shhh goes the spies

but the spies did not exist

boom boom goes the grenade

but the grenade did not exist

splash splash goes the body

but the body did not exist

~

scritch scratch goes the pencil

and suddenly

in

a

moment

everything exists

  1. This is a very interesting way to bring light into the falsifications of history in Big Brother’s society! your poem has a nice and structured flow that keeps the reader intrigued. I like this poem a lot, it’s unique 🙂

  2. Wow! I really love the unique approach you took to your post this week. There is something really powerful about the minimalist way you discussed erasing things from existence. And I LOVED the ending, when you expressed that writing and expressing one’s inner thoughts is the answer to all of this rewriting history. Thanks for sharing!

  3. AHHHHHHH! PEYTON! THIS IS SO EPIC! I love how you use onomatopeia to show the impermanence of sound for a collective memory with a childish tone juxtaposed with an eerie mood from murder. The way you shift the poem to emphasize the difference in writing as a cure to “(re)making history.”
