the procrastinator’s burden

Take up the procrastinator’s burden—
Send forth the best distractions—
Go send the homework to exile
To scroll through TikToks instead
To watch meaningless YouTube videos
On iPhones and laptops—
Your diddle daddling, lollygagging,
Half false security and half laziness

Take up the procrastinator’s burden
An abundance of excuses
To veil the threat of deadlines
And ease the brain;
By acting occupied and productive
Because “I’m busy”
Busy doing nothing at all
It’s okay, there’s still time

Take up the procrastinator’s burden—
And stay in denial:
The “I still have time”
The “what’s one more video?”
The “I don’t need sleep…”
(Ah quickly) to the due date:
“Why did it approach so quickly?”
“It didn’t.” You were “busy”, remember?

Take up the procrastinator’s burden-
This is where crisis begins-
The slightly deserved panic,
The appalling, unsolvable dilemma.
Comes now, the hasty working
“I will never procrastinate again!”,
Determined to never endure the struggle again,
The cycle of procrastination!

  1. What an intriguing and creative idea of a blog post! This accurately describes the process of procrastination. Distractions on my left, distractions on my right, distractions! And yes, I will send my homework to exile 🙂

  3. Ah, the cyclical nature of procrastination strikes again for your other blog posts, but I did thoroughly enjoy this parody. Though your descriptions aptly describe my weekend when I was going to start grading those essays…
